Floored

Had my first (and hopefully last) experience of laying laminate flooring this weekend. C&C are decorating their spare room and turning it into a library to store their many books. They wanted a new floor so I 'volunteered' to help Craig lay it. Highlight of the day was sawing through a power cable and getting showered with sparks - some cowboy electrician had wired in the upstairs power points and ran the cable for them behind the door frame which we were cutting to slide the laminate under. Despite that, once we'd worked out which way round to lay the floor itself (the first six or so attempts were rejects), it went down pretty easily. We didn't quite get finished - there was just some edging left - but it looked pretty good by the time we gave up for the night. Interestingly, Craig has the worlds worst jigsaw which has to be held at a 20° angle to cut a straight line. And laying laminate knackers your knees. Ouch.

649,740/1

I got my first ever Royal Flush whilst playing poker at lunchtime today. I had Jc and 10d in my hand and got Ad Qd 7d on the flop. The turn gave me Kd at which point I thought I'd try and stay in for the flush, not quite realising what was on the table. The river card was Jd and my poker software flashed up that I'd got the nuts and the Royal Flush. After I'd climbed back onto my chair, I raised the only other player still left in with me and won the grand total of $1. Fantastic - must learn to play higher limit tables when lucky hands show up like that! We checked the odds afterwards and it's a 649,740/1 shot. Nice.

New Who

Watched the first episode (New Earth) of the new series of Doctor Who tonight with David Tennant. First impressions are that I liked the new doctor, maybe more than Christopher Eccleston, but that the script for the first episode was a bit lame. Hopefully it's just setting the scene for the rest of the series. Still good stuff though. Wooo wooo wooo!
