Floored

Had my first (and hopefully last) experience of laying laminate flooring this weekend. C&C are decorating their spare room and turning it into a library to store their many books. They wanted a new floor so I 'volunteered' to help Craig lay it. Highlight of the day was sawing through a power cable and getting showered with sparks - some cowboy electrician had wired in the upstairs power points and ran the cable for them behind the door frame which we were cutting to slide the laminate under. Despite that, once we'd worked out which way round to lay the floor itself (the first six or so attempts were rejects), it went down pretty easily. We didn't quite get finished - there was just some edging left - but it looked pretty good by the time we gave up for the night. Interestingly, Craig has the worlds worst jigsaw which has to be held at a 20° angle to cut a straight line. And laying laminate knackers your knees. Ouch.
